Thank you for visiting. This project was born out of an innate curiosity, a search for answers and a little lockdown boredom. Above all, it was created with good intentions. In no way, do we wish to diminish the enormity of the COVID-19 crisis, or disrespect the families of those who have died.
Like any creative activity, this self-initiated project started with a series of questions: Is the Coronavirus as deadly as we are told? Are the lockdown measures proportionate, or even necessary? As the ‘curve has flattened’ why are temporary measures (such as social distancing) looking permanent?
More pertinently, were the questions from our children: “Daddy, when is the scary virus going to go away?” or “When can I see granny and grandad (who live abroad) again?”. Unfortunately, the answers to any of these questions were not on the Six O’Clock News, or in the cut-and-paste journalism of news outlets.
As designers, we instinctively question things and processes. But during this unprecedented crisis, we noticed the lack of questioning and discussion. We missed the interplay of alternative views. Asking questions never did any harm. So, if we’re wrong, then no harm will be done. What we found is total acquiescence by our family, friends, society – even as the lockdown turned life upside down, and destroyed many businesses, which will create even more suffering in the future...
In fact, we found that the mere act of questioning is viewed by many people as an affront, an act of dissent or just plain stupid. Nowadays, challenging the mainstream narrative invariably provokes ridicule or mockery, and the ‘conspiracy theory’ label.
All told, we find everything quite confusing, and upsetting. Although the lockdown has been relaxed, we still see FEAR on the street. If anything, the recent introduction of laws obliging citizens to wear face masks on public transport has heightened this sense of FEAR. This website strives to comment on this era of FEAR and, at least, trigger a conversation.
